Pebbles at CourtX

We are excited to announce a new addition to CourtX, Pebble Series, 2020 by artist Anna Bajo. Pebble Series consists of 3 Marmara Marble pebble sculptures situated in the garden of Café Fresco. We welcome you to visit Café Fresco and discover them!

Bajo’s sculpture series is inspired by the pebble beachfront close by and is a larger-than-life representation of a much-loved feature of the Southsea coastal landscape.

The collection of pebble sculptures relate to the neighbouring Japanese rock garden in Canoe Lake and the traditional Japanese culture of Suiseki, whereby small naturally occurring or shaped rocks are appreciated for their aesthetic or decorative value. This draws a connection with our fascination and appreciation of pebble beaches and the smooth, naturally formed objects we find along them.

An interesting fact about “Pebble 1” is its volume is exactly pi cubic metres, inviting thought on the naturally occurring mathematical patterns in nature along with the 3:2 proportion of the pebbles.

Pebbles Series is there to be enjoyed however please take care when interacting with the work and do so at your own risk.

Special thanks to Filip Popiołek and Danny Granger for photography.
