Artist Statement

Time paused, suspended in a mise en scène of unsettling silence. Desolation haunts a derelict dystopia. Isolation lurks in a post-apocalyptic world. The stage is set, a backdrop of boarded up buildings, derelict bungalows and canvas tents looms beneath charcoal clouds, hallowed rainbows and slate skies. Freeze frames of abandonment, of neglected suburbs and barren wastelands, promising a human presence but performed, on canvas, as a play with no cast. The scenery becomes a montage of memories, a collage of daydreams, where the banal and the familiar sit side-by-side with the awe-inspiring and the sublime. Sweeping strokes of colour, electric green, petroleum purple, scarlet and turquoise fuse at a distance to form an uncompromising realism. An endless emptiness, a portal, a gateway, a banishment into another world.
